Andy Goodman will be presenting both workshops during this one day training of trainers. Participants will gain skills and knowledge about becoming an effective presenter in both interactive, engaging workshops.
Storytelling as Best Practice
Storytelling as Best Practice is an interactive workshop in which participants learn about the importance of narrative as a form of communication, learn how to tell effective stories, and learn how to use stories in virtually all aspects of their day-to-day work.
For thousands of years, human beings have relied on stories to capture and convey important information. Quite naturally, we have become biologically and culturally oriented towards storytelling. Modern technology has given us shiny new tools with which to communicate, and in our fervor to remain "cutting edge" we often ignore our natural inclinations.
The fact remains: if your goal is to educate, persuade, or simply connect in a meaningful way with a particular audience, storytelling is the single most powerful communications tool available to you. This workshop will make the case for storytelling by answering five questions:
- What are the four factors that make narrative the most powerful form of human communication?
- How do stories compare with data when it comes to convincing an audience?
- What are the key structural elements and qualities of a well-crafted story?
- How can you use stories to enhance your work on a day-to-day basis?
- How can you build a storytelling culture in your organization so that everyone will use this tool?
Why Bad Presentations Happen to Good Causes
Do you know the first question to ask yourself before planning a presentation? How about the five mistakes that most undermine presentations? Can you identify the three elements that audiences eagerly look for in presentations they attend? You'll get the answers to these and many other questions in Why Bad Presentations Happen to Good Causes, a workshop based on the book of the same name. All workshop attendees will receive a complimentary copy of the book.
In this workshop, participants will:
- Review the highlights of unprecedented audience research in which 2,501 public interest professionals shared their thoughts on what makes presentations succeed or fail.
- Outline a structure to help organize their material for greater clarity and impact.
- Review basic "platform skills" which will help in presentation delivery.
- Explore ways to use PowerPoint more effectively.
